A Look at Resort 2011: Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone’s David Neville and Marcus Wainwright don’t hold any truck with the idea that resort needs to be all about clothes for going away on vacation. “We didn’t do any bikinis!” the boys, winners of Menswear Designer of the Year at last night’s CFDA Fashion Awards, said. “This is all about buy now, wear now.” So, around November, you could sate that desire for something new in your closet with any of the following: a great double-breasted varsity jacket in black leather and gray wool (the latter is woven to be showerproof) or the look that had more than a few Vogue editors salivating—a black cocktail dress with a leather bodice and an asymmetrical pleated skirt. (What is it with the irregular hem? Barely a skirt or dress these past few days hasn’t dipped up and down to some greater or lesser degree.) If you look closely at Rag & Bone’s resort looks, you might also be able to detect where the boys are heading for spring. We’ll give one thing away: Look at this short red dress for a clue. “Color!” Wainwright said. “We’ve never really done it before, but spring is going to have a lot of it, in a big way.”
